Diego Godoy Gutiérrez is a tenor, particularly associated with the Belcantist and Classical repertoires and also to the french opera.
In March 2017, he won the First Prize, in the Concours de l'U.P.M.C.F 2017 ' ( l'Union Professionnelle des Maîtres de Chant Français ).
Career
Diego Godoy was born in Antofagasta, Chile, actually based in France.
Initially, he entered the Liceo de Música de Copiapó, in Copiapó (Atacama, Chile) at the age of 14,
in 2007. His classical voice emerged in the course of his studies there under the class of Maestro Rodrigo Tapia Salfate. During this time, he became a member of the Symphonic Choir of Copiapó and sang as a soloist. Between 2011 and 2015, he studied with the Chilean mezzosoprano Graciela Araya at the “Ramón Vinay” Center of Operatic Studies of Chile (R.V.C.O.S), where he began focusing his repertoire on Mozart and the bel canto.
In 2012 he won the Young Artists Award of the Concurso Canto Trujillo (Peru), with 20 years old.
At the age of 21, in 2013, he made his debut as Benvolio of Gounod's Roméo et Juliette , in the National Opera of Chile (ex-Teatro Municipal de Santiago), conducted by Yves Abel.
In the years 2013 to 2014, he performed as a student of R.V.C.O.S the role of Lindoro in Rosssini's L’italiana in Algeri Tonio in Donizetti's La Fille du Régiment and Duke of Mantua in Verdi’s Rigoletto.
In 2015 he made the appearance as Azaël in Debussy's L’enfant Prodigue in Berlin’s Heilig-Kreuz-Kirche. He also performed the role of Ferrando in Mozarts Così fan tutte in Trinidad & Tobago’s Queen’s Hall Theatre and Albazar in Rossini's Il Turco in Italia in National Opera of Chile with the conduction of José M. Pérez Sierra and the direction of Emilio Sagi. The last production won the prize of Best National Opera Cast 2015 awarded by the Circle of Art Critics of Chile.
From 2015 to 2017 he has studied at the Opera Studio of the Opéra National du Rhin, where he took part in the professional studies and master-classes of great singers and teachers as Sylvie Valayre, Lionel Sarrazin, Umberto Finazzi and Felice Venanzoni.
So far he has worked with conductors like Danielle Callegari, Antonino Fogliani, Constantin Trinks, José M. Pérez-Sierra, Sergio Alapont, and the directors like Robert Carsen, Olivier Py ,and Anne Le-Guernec. Here, he has sung the roles of Almaviva in Paisiello's Il Barbiere di Siviglia; "Le Prince" in Wolf-Ferrari's Cendrillon; Arbace in Mozart's Idomeneo; Edoardo Milfort in Rossini's La Cambiale di Matrimonio and Fernand in Donizetti's La Favorite.
In 2017, he performed Florville in Rossinis Il Signor Bruschino; Tamino in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte and Tonio in Donizetti's La Fille du Régiment at Kirchstetten, Austria.
In 2017-18 season he sings Araspe in the world premiere of Mercadante's Didone Abbandonata with the Innsbrucker Festwochen der Alten Musik at the Tiroler Landestheater , with the conduction of Alessandro de Marchi and direction of Jürgen Flimm; Lindoro in Rossini's l'Italiana in Algeri at Teatro di Pisa, Italy with the conduction of Francesco Pasqualetti and direction of Stefano Vizioli; Ferrando Mozart's Così fan Tutte at Opéra de Reims, France and Ernesto in Donizetti's Don Pasquale at the Warsaw's Chamber Opera, Poland.
The season 2018-19 shall include Don Ramiro in Rosssini's Cenerentola at the renowned Teatro del Maggio Fiorentino di Firenze , also at the OperaEstate Festival del Veneto of Bassano del Grappa with the collaboration of Teatro Verdi di Padova; Uriele in the world premiere of the Simone Mayr's italian version of Die Shöpfung by Haydn, at the Donizetti Opera Festival di Bergamo; Tamino once again and Elvino of Bellini's La Sonnambula with Schweizer Kammeroper in the Tonhalle Maag of Zurich and Il Conte d'Almaviva at the historic Teatro Comunale di Bologna.
